Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) is an instructor-led course that uses a series of simulated pediatric emergencies to reinforce the important concepts of a systematic approach to pediatric assessment, basic life support, PALS treatment algorithms, effective resuscitation and team dynamics. The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes.

Prerequisites and preparation

This course does not teach BLS skills, interpretation of rhythm strips, or basic PALS pharmacology. Thus all Students are required to complete the pre-test prior to class. A print-out of the pre-test results must be provided to the instructor prior to the beginning of class.Directions to complete the PALS pre-test and online precourse modules will be available upon registration. Students who have not studied and prepared for this course will be rescheduled into another class to allow them adequate preparation for successful completion of the class.

Audience

The PALS Course is for healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children. These include personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, paramedics and others who need a PALS course completion card for job or other requirements.
